“He was a chief tax collector and was rich.” (v 2)

Zacchaeus was a chief tax collector. That’s actually the first thing Luke thinks of when he has to describe Zacchaeus. His entire life was defined by his occupation, because it was his occupation that made him what he was.

Because of his job, Zacchaeus was rich. His wealth allowed him to build a house. His house was built on his job. Things were good.

So, why was he so desperate to see Jesus?

Prayer:

What is your first thought when you ask yourself, “Who am I?” Take a moment to write out a short list of words that identify you. Then offer the list to the Lord as tools you wish he would use.
