I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. [Revelation 3:15-16, KJV]

How can we not be totally on fire? Day after day millions of Christ followers meander through their faith journeys. If there was a thermometer to check their spiritual temperature, the mercury would be permanently stuck at room temperature.

Room temperature is pure mediocrity. It is a state of equilibrium. You have no more energy than your surroundings. In other words, you’re just like everything around you.

Room temperature sucks.

God, put us in the flames of your altar
Pour on the fuel and make it burn
Stoke the heat until it threatens to consume us.

In the intensity of your fire,
        Transfer your passion and energy,
Burning and red hot, into our spirits.

Then lift us out and change the world through us
And when the passion begins to cool
Stick us back in and fire things up again.
