GLUTTONY – literally “to gulp down” or “to swallow.” To withhold from others in need so you may be over filled.

Read Colossian 3:14-17

The opposite of gluttony is not self-control or charity, although those things may result from rejecting gluttony. The opposite is contentment and peace. When peace rules our hearts, the power of gluttony is broken because we cannot be gluttons in the name of Jesus.

How do we know our hearts are at peace with God? It is not about our hearts being silent – stripped of all desires. This is not peace; it is death. Peace is found in harmony – singing God’s song with him. Gluttony and other deadly thoughts are out of phase with God’s song, and they create chaos and discord in the song.

Jesus, in your name, I ask for your peace. I ask that my heart’s voice may sing in harmony with your heart.
