Lord, my heart is not lifted up, Nor my eyes lofty.

Neither do I concern myself with great matters, Nor with things too profound for me.

Surely I have calmed and quieted my soul, Like a weaned child with his mother; Like a weaned child is my soul within me.

O Israel, hope in the Lord from this time forth and forever. [Psalm 131:1-3]

We do not trust people with shifty eyes, people who are looking everywhere but at you when they speak. You have to wonder if God is the same way.

Maybe the reason we do not experience God’s presence is that we will not meet his gaze. We keep ourselves distracted. Are you trying to manage the presence of the Almighty? Trying to balance his presence with everything else you think is important?

Alright, God. Here I am and I’m going to level with you. I’ve been avoiding this long enough. I’ve been avoiding you because I ______ (insert sin, excuse or distraction here). It’s stupid, and I’m going to stop.
