I am going to be running a review of the upcoming book Insanely Simple by Ken Segall (look for the review in April), and reading the manuscript got me thinking a lot about our approach to the work of the church. Our modern age, on the coattails of the medieval one, has a pension for complicating things. We like to compound things – whether it is through theological precision or multiple programs and classes. Beyond just the church, the modern world is one with inherent complexity.
But is that Jesus’ way of doing things?
Jesus preferred the simple way, the narrow way (Matthew 7:13). He didn’t build organizations. He just implemented a simple revolution, stripping away all the manmade complications.
I think I’ll be blogging my way through some thoughts on this for the next couple of days.
