The Family Ministries’ 2019-2020 year has seen growth in the number of volunteers giving of their time and talents to see our young people draw closer to the Lord.
The Nursery Ministry was pleased to see the addition of two new volunteers: Kristen Woodman and Linda Buck. That brings the number of nursery workers caring for the littlest among us to twenty-two dedicated regulars, along with a handful of substitute volunteers.
This year, God’s Backyard began its third year of the Answers In Genesis Bible Curriculum. Accordingly, those kids who have been with the program for the previous two years will have gone through the Bible from Genesis to Revelation by the end of 2020 We said farewell to the Gilman family in early January 2020, as they moved to Virginia. Losing that gang put a large dent in our GBY attendees. In an almost comical turn of events, however, while our GBY attendance plummeted, our volunteer numbers jumped to new highs with Rick Nadeau, Eric Wittenberg and Breyanna Desmarais added to our teachers. Since God has provided the volunteers, we await to see how He will fill the classroom with new students as the year progresses.
Tom and Becky Hathcoat and Lee and Stacy Ferrar have been doing a great job teaching our older kids (ages 12-18) in Youth Group. The group will be launching into the “GROW” curriculum in the months to come. It is a fully self-contained program that will facilitate long range planning of teaching, group activities and practical discussion of timely topics. GROW is designed to evoke growth not only among the teens, but also train youth volunteers and engage parents in the partnership of seeing our teens grow in their relationship with the Lord.
The assembly limitations imposed by the abundance of caution related to COVID-19 have hampered most aspects of Family Ministries during the past two months. Let’s pray that those constraints will soon be a thing of the past and all of our ministries can get back to fully functioning.
